Developer Tony Cordeiro is set to transform downtown Fall River with his new project, The Lofts at Hartwell Street, which will consist of two six-story buildings housing 102 market-rate apartments. Located at 60 Hartwell St., the development will also include 5,000 square feet of commercial space and is designed to reflect the architectural style of historic buildings in the area. Cordeiro plans to construct the project in two phases, with an estimated investment of around $38 million.
To move forward, Cordeiro will seek approvals from the Fall River Zoning Board of Appeals on May 16, requesting special permits for construction in a commercial mill district, adjustments to parking requirements, and a variance for setbacks. Cordeiro’s vision aims to revitalize the downtown area by increasing residential occupancy, which he believes will stimulate further economic development and enhance the city’s image.
