Tony Cordeiro, a real estate developer in Fall River, is set to transform a historic building at 38 Third St., which previously housed a health center for the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, into 15 market-rate apartments. The redevelopment project, estimated at $4.1 million, aims to preserve the building’s historical significance while addressing necessary renovations, including lead and asbestos abatement.
Cordeiro initially planned to demolish the structure but changed his mind after discussions with local historians. The project will feature approximately 700-square-foot one-bedroom units, with five designed as loft-style apartments. Construction is expected to begin in about three months, with completion targeted for the end of the year. Cordeiro’s confidence in the project’s success is bolstered by the quick rental of his previous developments, which have seen high demand.
