Developer Tony Cordeiro has submitted the only bid for the former Frank M. Silvia School site in Fall River, which was recently destroyed by fire. Cordeiro plans to create a mixed-use development featuring commercial space and 42 housing units, aiming to revitalize the area near downtown and the city’s bus terminal. He expressed his commitment to enhancing the neighborhood, stating, “We’re going to change that area. It’s going to be beautiful.”
The Silvia School, built in 1902, has been vacant since 2003 and has faced various redevelopment challenges. Previous plans to transform the site into a boutique hotel and restaurant fell through, leading to its return to the city. Following a fire in March, four juveniles were charged with arson, and the site was subsequently demolished. Cordeiro’s proposal has received positive feedback from city council members, who praised his reputation and impact on the community. The bid will now undergo further review before a final decision is made.
